Inter-school Campdrafting Competition 2007

The drought made it difficult but the Brigalow Inter-school Campdrafting Competition continued in 2007.

The competition for 2007 has been completed with a presentation at the Kilcoy Draft last Sunday, the 20 th May. Once again it was great to award trophies to the winners but also
to take the time to acknowledge the talent of our youth in this field of camp drafting. There are a lot of up and coming very talented riders who will make their presence felt when they leave the junior and juvenile ranks and move into the maidens, novice and open fields.

It was disappointing in some respects because the extreme drought has so badly affected the various drafts – lack of good cattle either cancelled drafts or reduced the nominations able to be accepted. It was disappointing to see so many of the riders in this competition unable to achieve riding at the required three drafts. My congratulations to the various
draft committees for their hard work in continuing their drafts in very difficult conditions
and for their continued support of this competition. May the drought be soon broken!!!

Congratulations to the winners of the competition:-

Congratulations also to Lowood High School (73.4) whose three riders, Gallagher Brandon, Lentini Kristy and Lentini Nicole, won the perpetual Brigalow Inter-school Long Horn Trophy. The trophy was presented to these students by Bob Armitage of Brigalow Country Clothing, the major sponsor of the competition.   My thanks to Bob for his sponsorship and continual support of this competition.   Congratulations to the riders from Toogoolawah High School (72.6) (Katie Fogg, Natasha Gelhaar and Jack Fogg) who were only 0.8 of a point behind in this team category.

Bob Armitage, Lowood SHS: Kristy Lentini, Brandon Gallagher, and Nicole Lentini

Thanks also to the age group sponsors - Searle garden products, Fernvale Produce, Nash Custom Saddles, Toogoolawah Saddlery, Gelhaar Family, Kilcoy Camp Draft and Brisbane Valley Pony Club. The competition could not have continued without their support.   They gave a donation to purchase trophies and certificates for one or more age groups and
their help in this way is greatly appreciated.

This whole competition has been a showcase of young talent and their potential.   It has been a fantastic competition and will continue in 2008.    Information will be prepared and available at the beginning of 2008 for the new competition.   If you are interested in competing individually or as a school group, or offering support as a sponsor, contact Troy Harris at (interschool@brigalowclothing.com).
